Cytora's platform is built on human oral mucosa stem cells (hOMSC), a stem cell population discovered in the lamina propria of the oral mucosa that retains properties of neural crest and mesenchymal stem cells. The cells act through a dual mechanism of direct cell engraftment/replacement and paracrine trophic signaling that modulates the surrounding tissue microenvironment, supporting scar-free, fetal-like tissue regeneration and reduced neuroinflammation in preclinical models. hOMSC exhibit allogeneic immune properties that avoid the need for immunosuppression, remain non-tumorigenic and non-immunogenic, and produce consistent results across donors regardless of age, gender, or diabetic status. A minimal oral mucosa biopsy can be expanded via a defined culture process into enough cells to manufacture thousands of allogeneic, off-the-shelf doses. The lead formulation, hOMSC200, is administered locally for chronic wound indications; hOMSC300 is administered intrathecally via lumbar puncture for neurological indications, using a controlled infusion protocol (the subject of the company's own issued patent) designed to reduce administration-related side effects while enabling higher therapeutic cell doses.
