Microfluidic Robotic Catheters
Technology
Spinodal’s technology stems from meta-material science developed at the Technion – IIT. It includes a scalable fabrication method for multi-stable tubular microstructures (down to 100 µm in dimeter), which provides the basis for the catheter’s tip structure, an actuation method which is based on modular segmental DOFs (Degrees of Freedom) in extension, curve and twist of the tip, and a set of proximal mechanisms allowing Robotic microfluidic dosing for controlled tip motions. Blended together, these unique technological features comprise a workflow which retains all the advantages of conventional catheter workflow, essential to the cath-lab, but add disruptive robotic capabilities. These capabilities in turn give the physician complete freedom of motion in areas of the heart which are practically inaccessible to conventional catheters.
