Genopore is developing a proprietary and innovative, semiconductor-based protein detector system that will enable an unbroken-single-molecule, high-throughput, protein identification.

Genopore's platform combines three elements: chemo-selective protein labeling, translocation of the labeled proteins through solid-state nanopores on a semiconductor chip, and an optical readout that uses AI for protein recognition. Proteins are labeled with a simple sample-preparation step and then driven one molecule at a time through the nanopores, where their optical signal is recorded. Because each molecule is read individually and in full length, the system counts proteins digitally. This allows it to identify and quantify them at the single-molecule level with high throughput. The company's patent filings describe a device that pairs nanopore membranes with optical waveguides, where light travelling through the waveguide layer illuminates labeled molecules as they pass through the pore. This design is intended to improve signal-to-noise ratio compared with conventional fluorescence detection.
